P’sinan’s first Google Student Ambassador is from PSU

Jasverenne, first Pangasina GSA

THERE IS STILL no university in Pangasinan or in Northern Luzon that has gone Google.

Last year, Google’s team for Edu went to Urdaneta City University to conduct an Edu Summit which was participated in by 19 colleges and universities in Pangasinan.

So going Google or deployment-- for Pangasinan colleges and universities -- is in the works this year.But Pangasinan is still lucky to have its first Google Student Ambassador
(GSA). Sixteen-year old Jasverenne Ferrer, incoming BSIT freshman of the Pangasinan State University’s Lingayen campus, was chosen as one of the lucky GSAs from more than 1,000 applicants coming from more than 200 universities in Southeast Asia.

A GSA is an opportunity to for students to act as liaisons between Google and their universities. Having a GSA on a campus is very useful since they may:

1. Help Google to better understand the campus culture and open ways for
mutual collaboration between the university and Google;

2. Spread the word about competitions, boot camps, scholarships and other
Google opportunities that enrich the student educational experience and
strengthen their skills to be fit for the job market;

3. Host and organize events to bring awareness about Google products and
technologies that are useful for the research and education processes at the
university; and

4. Be a source of knowledge in the university about Google products and
technologies.

In Southeast Asia, Google launched its third Google Student Ambassador Program. Pangasinan State University is also lucky to mentor Pangasinan’s first GSA. Google Asia Pacific’s Regional Lead for Education Outreach Program wrote a letter thanking PSU-IT Department Professor Virgilio Aquino about the news and hopes he facilitates the work of the student ambassador in their campus.

Jasverenne, a granddaughter of Atty. Tomas and Rosario Padilla of Malasiqui,  is invited to attend the Google Ambassador Southeast Asia Summit to be held in Cebu on May 29-June 2, 2014 along with all other GSAs as a requirement to continue in the program.
