IT MAY HAVE been treated simply as a small item in the news and some may not have even felt it or became aware of it; but it is actually a development that should bring sheer delight and greater hope to Pangasinenses especially in these times of hardships.
We refer to the announcement made recently by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that total investments that found their way into Pangasinan last year amounted to at least P15 billion!
From all angles of economy and business, that is definitely a gigantic accomplishment as this augurs well for good economic opportunities as reflected by the DTI.
Attesting to the truth of the claim, DTI-Pangasinan Provincial Director Peter Mangabat disclosed that the data is based on business registrations in 2013 – adding that the bulk of businesses which constitute 90 percent are in the area of retailing.
Investments definitely help a local government unit in its march towards progress. Even in the comparatively ‘small’ area of retailing, investments can start the spark which is necessary to ignite and propel the economy to greater heights. As Mangabat had pointed out, the DTI is advocating entrepreneurship because this would definitely generate income for businessmen. Needless to say, this income for businessmen also assures employment especially to people in the area.
As analyzed by Mangabat, it appears that promotional activities in the province helped much in promoting Pangasinan -- and what promptly comes to mind are the current thrusts of Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. in enticing or luring investors to Pangasinan. Undeniably, Espino and the provincial government, together with a number of municipal and city LGUs, have effectively implemented moves in the business or economic area that have ostensibly convinced investors to enter Pangasinan.
Moreover, as stated by the DTI official, there are other factors that may have likewise influenced the entry of investments in the province like desirable infrastructure, ample
facilities, conducive environment and local incentives for businessmen. All these factors go hand in hand in making an investor decide to penetrate the province. Obviously, discerning investors saw the presence of these factors in Pangasinan and therefore decided to enter the province.
Unavoidably, however, the next thrust is to convince them to stay here.
