Laoag City earns global award on good governance


















LAOAG CITY, La Union - Laoag City received an international award for best practices in local governance for 2014 from the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR) in Belgium.

Laoag City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas said Philippine Ambassador to Belgium Roland Van Remoortele welcomed her in simple rites held at the Hotel le Plaza in Brussels, Belgium last June 2.

It was during the European Award for Best Practices 2014 convention when Ambassador Remoortele received the award on behalf of Laoag.

The award recognized the excellent commitment and result of quality management strategies of several organizations, public administrations and companies from Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia.

“Our very own Laoag City was the first and only city from the Philippines awarded by the ESQR for Best Practices on Local Governance for 2014,” Fariñas said.

The ESQR promotes quality awareness, recognizes good business practices, technological innovation, quality achievements in organizations worldwide and publicizes these organization's successful performance strategies.

“It is only now that ESQR gave such an award for a city in the Philippines, and it is a great honor for a city to be recognized internationally,” she added.

The mayor shared the award to residents saying that they contributed much to the city which resulted in an international recognition.
