Tabuk youth end leadership seminar with tree planting

TABUK CITY, Kalinga - Adding environmental impact to their three-day leadership seminar, more than 140 students and out-of-school youth (OSY) of Tabuk had a tree planting activity here last week.

The activity concluded the Youth Leadership Seminar (YLS) conducted by the Alpha Company of the Army’s 503rd Infantry Brigade stationed in the province to student leaders from Nambaran Agro-Industrial National High School (NANHS), Agbanawag National High School and OSYs in this city.

YLS Coordinator Gilbert Tadiuan reported that under the program, the Army trains selected youth representatives in leadership skills with the theme: Kabataan Nasa Kamay mo ang Pagbabago”.

This is in line with the Army’s Oplan Bayanihan Program, a community-based program drawing closer Army-civilian partnership in the Army’s area of assignment, he elaborated.

After the seminar, organizers coordinated with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office of Tabuk City, which provided the coffee and mahogany seedlings in the tree planting activity at the NANHS lot in Sitio Eleb, Tabuk.

As young community leaders, participants were taught to be stewards of the environment and be involved in community projects like helping in the protection of trees and preservation of forests and watersheds in their areas.
The participants were encouraged to provide follow-up care to the seedlings they planted to assure the growth of new trees in the site. (Larry Lopez/JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
