38 donors, 156 runners participate in Kalinga Blood Donation Month

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 30 (PIA) – Thirty eight blood donors and 156 runners actively participated in the one-day ‘Run for Life’ fun run activity as part of the Blood Donors Month celebration in the province.
Provincial Health Office (PHO) Blood Program Coordinator Lilibeth Dimas said civilians and government employees joined the activities on July 17. Most of the blood donors and runners are members of the Philippine National Police.

In his opening message, Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Romulo B. Gaerlan expressed gratitude for the PNP and the provincial government’s support extended to the Blood Program of Kalinga.

Governor Jocel C. Baac also expressed appreciation to the organizers for conducting said awareness raising activity underscoring the importance of blood donation and saving lives. The provincial government he said has started allocating funds for the Provincial Blood Council - Blood Program Kalinga to ensure the sustainability of the blood station of the Kalinga Provincial Hospital. He urged the public to become blood donors.

He also commended the members of the Kalinga PPO for their efforts to win back the trust and confidence of the community with their community service activities.City Administrator Laurence Bayongan talked on the benefits of being a blood donor and the advantage of maintaining a donor’s account with Blood Banks such as the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Esther Roselle D. Calma of the KalingaApayao State College Medical Office also conducted an advocacy on healthy lifestyle followed by the blood extraction activity.

Among the donors for the fun run include the Ambigatton Multipurpose Cooperative (P2,500.00), TAMPCO for the Mineral Water given out during the fun run,  Juruena General Merchandise (P500.00), and a one cot bed pledge by Don Jackson Hardware and Paint Center.

270 pieces of T-shirts were also sold with 140 collectibles. Amount collected will be used to purchase cot beds for the regular mobile bloodletting activities of the council.

The activities were organized by the Office on Health Services - Provincial Blood and the City Health Office under Dr. Henrietta S. Bagayao the City Health Officer in partnership with the Kalinga Provincial Police Office. (GeraldineDumallig/JDP/GGD, PIA-CAR, Kalinga)
