Becoming a benchmark in your line of work

Every person is his own brand. You are your brand YOU. And you are indebted to yourself to make your own brand successful. By successful, it doesnt really mean being famous or being rich. It means that whatever you choose to do, you are confident that your brand will be the benchmark of how things are done.

Working with a lot of people in various industries, I have observed that benchmark brands always stand out from the rest. Sometimes, these personal brands influence others to do what they do or influence others to do what they do best.

Let me tell a story about three brands that I worked with for the past few years.

1. Siapno-Tada Optical. The Siapno-Tada Optical (STO), is a homegrown brand from Pangasinan started more than 30 years ago by spouses Ben Tada and Dr. Vicky Siapno. One is an optometrist and the other is a businessman. This husband and wife tandem has been so successful that even with big and small competitors on the playing field, their brand remained as the go-to store for optical needs. The company, now being run by the son, continues to reap success and rewards from the goodwill that the brand has developed across the years.

Siapno-Tada Optical Inc. has more than 15 branches in Northern Luzon and can be conveniently seen on major malls in Pangasinan and La Union. Their secret? Unsurpassed and personalized customer service.

2. Vibrante Salon  Owned and managed by newlyweds Marcel & Gen Mendoza, this salon has innovated the personal haircare industry in Pangasinan. Marcel is an engineer by profession and Gen used to work in posh international salons in the Middle East. Marcel & Gen put up the business together before they got married. A visit to Vibrante Salon will not really break your bank, but they cater to excellence like no other. Yes, they are probably the most expensive salon in town, but hey, they bring out the best in you. And that is what matters most. you pay them for expertise, not for cutting your hair.

3. GOVERNOR ESPINO. Im sure some of you will raise their eyebrows over this but yes, I worked with this brand too. Governor Espino is the governor of the Province of Pangasinan. He is on his last term as governor, having almost served his three consecutive terms. Majority of Pangasinenses will agree with me that this PMA Batch 72 graduate has worked and maintained his great brand. The Espino brand of leadership transcends all challenges. He ambitiously envisioned Pangasinan to be the number 1 province and hell yeah, its now coming true. His mission of course is to make Pangasinan the best place to invest, live, work and raise a family. Of course we all know its gradually being realized.

For those who know the governor well, he does not tolerate mediocrity, he doesnt want the ordinary. He does not chase ordinary opportunities. He goes for the best. All the time. From a sleeping giant, Pangasinan is now approaching its Golden age. (Lumipat ng probinsya ang ayaw maniwala)

So far, these three brands have become benchmarks in their chosen fields. I can tell you a few more, even horrible brands too, in the next issues.

Do you know any brand that has been a benchmark in your community? Tell us about it.. Tweet me for an online chat @vanjpadilla
