Cordillera Month Jobs Fair registers 799 job seekers

BANGUED, Abra - The jobs fair conducted during the recent Cordillera Week celebration in Abra had so far registered the highest number of job seekers ever since the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the provincial government partnered in this endeavor.

Per record of DOLE – Abra, a total of 799 job seekers have registered in the Jobs Fair conducted last July 14, the day before the culmination program of the 27th anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region held in and hosted by the province.

Fourteen applicants were hired-on-the-spot (HOTS) while applications of 361 are being processed and considered for interview by the participating agencies that have posted a total of 2,391 vacancies.   

A total of 22 agencies participated in the Jobs Fair, 11 of which are local; 8 overseas employment agencies; and 3 government agencies particularly the Technical Education Skills Development Authority, Philippine Statistics Authority, and the Professional Regulation Commission.

Most of the job vacancies offered by the overseas employment agencies are available in the Middle East and various Asian counties.   

DOLE Provincial Director Apollo Luspian  thanked Governor Eustaquio P. Bersamin for his all-out support to the said activity; the active participation of the provincial and municipal managers of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO),  the Provincial Jobs Fair Committee  as well as the local media for drum-beating the fair.

For the year 2014, the DOLE-Abra had already conducted three mini jobs fairs in the municipalities of Bangued, Dolores and Pidigan; and a provincial job fair.

Meanwhile, DOLE awarded P1,812,950.00  for the livelihood projects of three associations of local micro entrepreneurs.These are the ASIST Young Entrepreneurs Association of Lagangilang in the amount  of P549,750.00; the LABS Chichacorn Processors Association of San Juan with  P837,120.00; and the NagtupacanFisherfolks Association of Lagangilang- P426,080.00.
