DOST releases P1.3M livelihood aid in Kalinga

TABUK CITY, Kalinga - The Department of Science and Technology Center awarded P1,384,448 in livelihood aid to grassroot organizations in the province.
DOST-Kalinga Head Alfonso Berto handed the checks to recipients during the  Cordillera Unity Gong relay program, here, last Saturday, July 12.
Dixi Catacutan of the DOST-Kalinga reported the financial aid is a grant under DOST’s Science and Technology Enhancement and Advancement of Municipalities (STEAM) Program targeting community-based organized beneficiaries.
The municipality of Tinglayan got the bulk of the aid with P540,000; Tabuk City – P282,250; Rizal – P255,000; Pasil – P187,448; Balbalan – P149,000 and Lubuagan – P119,750.
According to Catacutan, the financial aid is given to small livelihood groups who had completed science and technology workshops provided by DOST. They were taught to make livelihood project proposals which are the projects funded under the aid.

Management capability of recipients is crucial under the program since the aid is released as grant, Catacutan said as she called on municipal STEAM coordinators to closely supervise implementation of the projects. (Larry Lopez/JDP/LL—PIA CAR,Kalinga)
