Malacañang bares national holidays for 2015

Ten long weekends await Filipinos next year as President Benigno S. Aquino III issued Proclamation No. 831 declaring the national holidays to be observed in 2015.

 In a statement, Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said the early issuance of the proclamation is meant to allow companies and institutions to plan and maximize their activities ahead of time and for Filipino families to foster closer family bonds through the 10 long weekends provided for in the proclamation.

 The regular holidays and special days posted at the Official Gazette (www.gov.ph) are as follows:

 A. Regular Holidays
New Year’s Day – January 1 (Thursday)
Maundy Thursday – April 2
Good Friday – April 3
Araw ng Kagitingan – April 9 (Thursday)
Labor Day – May 1 (Friday)
Independence Day – June 12 (Friday)
National Heroes Day – August 31 (Last Monday of August)
Bonifacio Day – November 30 (Monday)
Christmas Day – December 25 (Friday)
Rizal Day – December 30 (Wednesday)

B. Special Non-Working Days
Chinese New Year – February 19 (Thursday)
Black Saturday – April 4
Ninoy Aquino Day – August 21 (Friday)
All Saints Day – November 1 (Sunday)
Additional special (non-working) days – January 2 (Friday) and December 24 (Thursday)
Last Day of the Year – December 31 (Thursday)

C. Special Holiday for all schools
EDSA Revolution Anniversary – February 25 (Wednesday)
The proclamation also states that Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as national holidays once the exact dates are determined in the Islamic calendar.
According to Section 3 of the proclamation, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) shall promulgate the implementing guidelines for this order. (April Montes/MCA/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
